The reading material gets you off to a good start and you can get Harvest Right App for endless possibilities!Finding used freeze dryers isn't easy. That's because most people who get them consider them a long-term investment. As such, they hold on to them for years. However, a used freeze dryer or two sometimes makes its way onto the market.
Evaluating efficiency and operational success is essential in selecting the right freeze dryer. One of the most important factors is capacity. For small batch production, pharmaceutical companies need precise and accurate freeze dryers, while food producers require large scale systems for mass production. Aligning a freeze dryer with the production requirements increases efficiency.
In fact, my son’s friends often comment that they wish they could have his freeze dried meals rather than whatever they are eating!
Obviously things like ice cream and marshmallows you would want to let the freeze cycle run longer. When I'm ready to start the drying cycle, I open the door, remove the insulator, and check the temperature of the food on the trays with an infrared thermometer. As long as it's below -10F I start the dry cycle. A side note for TonyC, have you ever thought about attaching a mirror to each side of the tray rack to reflect the radiant heat back in to the trays? I've looked at some mirror finish stainless on ebay, and it looks like you could do it for about $40. Not sure if it's worth a try or not. I would think it would let you get more water out in a cycle because the radiant heat wouldn't be warming the ice on the chamber walls. Just a thought.... They can last for decades, with regular maintenance of course. It’s like any other major appliance, it has running parts and will need to be maintained or repaired as needed.
This includes setting as many as five different shelf temperatures, thus allowing the material to dry in phases, at different temperatures. For instance, you might have the material begin drying at 10ºF and increase the temperature in phases until the ultimate final dry temperature is 70ºF.
Collaborating with smart freeze-dry machinery manufacturers can greatly increase production reliability. Businesses must also focus on equipment servicing, spare parts, and post-sale assistance for the freeze dryer. The system will reduce downtime and maximize efficiency when properly maintained.
The alternative was to simpIy cut a small section from the guard at the lowest point and allow the water to run down the front of the panel in a single stream. I am not crazy about the look, but it is absolutely necessary to protect my investment and the electronics. Do you think it's okay to just purchase a reducer to go from the size of the exhaust to the size of the hose that came with the can? Hopefully I said that in a way that makes sense! As well, does it matter which port is used as "in" and which as "out"? Thanks so much, Jen Hi Jen, Sorry to be gone so long. I did exactly as you proposed. I purchased a brass reducer and pushed the blue hose over it.
Run full system test with no food in chamber (results, 630 mTorr lowest steady reading - looking through the oil level window, some bubbling seen in oil even after an hour of pumpdown - some "air" noises from pump)
Forgive me for the extremely long post but I thought other southerners may also face this problem and could use this information.
The process consists of stages: primary drying, where most of the water is removed, and secondary drying, which removes unfrozen water molecules to preserve the product.
